5 out of 5 stars Excellent!   August 23, 2010

This item is high-quality, durable, and works perfectly. The attached hose is a wonderful addition, and makes filling watering cans easy. The almost Greek styling looks unique and distinguished, making it one of the few plastic water barrels that actually improve a garden's aesthetics.

5 out of 5 stars Pleasantly Surprised   August 22, 2010

Egad - I DO live in a desert and after one heavy 'Monsoon-type' rainfall my 65 gallon barrel was filled! (And weighed an impossible amount as I learned after it rained I needed to elevate it for the contraption on the bottom to drain. LOL!)I drilled holes in the top and planted some stuff. I shopped long and hard before I spent the small fortune this barrel cost (but they are all ridiculously expensive) and unlike some of the reviews, it arrived relatively unscathed. I selected this particular because it is very prominent in my back yard and most of the others in the same price range are UGLY (and this model has an absolutely essential spigot). This barrel looks great and works just fine. I even added a lovely brass rain chain to drop into the barrel's spout. I contacted the company with a question and received an answer a day later. All around, excellent Amazon and manufacturer service! BTW - Amazon offered a very competitive price on this and my city offered a small rebate on my water bill for rainwater harvesting. If I had the money I would order a second one.

5 out of 5 stars Love It!   August 11, 2010

I Love it!! Even though it is made of plastic resin, it really looks like terra cota. The only tiny flaw is that the basin in the lid for flowers doesn't have a drain hole, but this was easily fixed with a drill. I have to admit that the other flaw is that I forgot to empty it after the first rain and it overflowed, so don't forget to drain it :-).

5 out of 5 stars Excellent choice!   August 5, 2010

I had no idea this rain barrel was going to be so huge! I'm delighted! From afar, it looks like an old urn, but up close, it's a light-weight, but very sturdy plastic. I was able to move it into place easily by myself. It has a nice space, too, for planting small plants on top and I'm going to do that.

I can't wait for us to get enough rain to put it use!

5 out of 5 stars Works great with a rain chain   August 4, 2010

The Cascata works great if you have rain chains instead of downspouts. I just dropped the chain through the hole in the top and wrapped the lower part of the chain in a circle on top of the screen. The overflow just runs onto the rocks where the chain would have deposited the water so there was no need to divert it.

Left the top to fill with water (a lot splashes from a rain chain) and the birds love their new birdbath.

I wish I had replaced the drain hose with a better quality one before it filled, so will maybe do that after it has emptied. Water comes from the spout much faster, but the spout is too high to drain the rain barrel completely.

I am buying another to put under my other rain chain. (I am using the Fiscars with backflow diverter with my downspouts)
