Piece of junk August 30, 2010 Lisa Adams 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This 4-in-1 soil tester is pretty much worthless. The only thing that does work well is the light meter. We bought it to test the ph of our soil. We followed the directions exactly and got a reading. We then tested several different kinds of soil we had available and got the exact same reading every time. This leads me to believe this meter is not at all accurate. Even the moisture meter is not accurate. Also, make sure that your soil is loose before pushing this meter in because the tines bend VERY easily. I threw this away about a week after purchasing it. Even though it's fairly cheap, it is not worth it.
Great item August 11, 2010 phsychic (USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I find it to be a little complicated to use, but once you get the technique down it's extreamely accurate. Deffinately something to use for an expert gardener.
Great information on this tester August 2, 2010 Angela Petrillo (Hayden, Colorado) This tester provides a lot of information on one tool. It needs to be used carefully to not bend the tines. If you push it into hard soil, of course you will bend the tines or pull them out. I bought this item after reading some of the other reviews. It works great for us, but I do understand it's not meant to last a lifetime.
A useful garden tool. July 26, 2010 Rm115 (TX) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
First of all, some rater's gave unfair negative reviews for this device not working in water and sensor tines bending. The instructions clearly state not to use in water, and the tines are not designed for inserting into hard ground. I use a chopstick to punch holes into soil then insert the device pressing soil around the tines. If one follows the instructions all the tests are clearly decisive. I've used a chemical measuring set for checking garden soil until now. After bouncing those readings off this electronic device found both within a very narrow range to nearly identical. For me the advantages of using this product are its ease, no mess and avoiding chemical restock costs. If handled and maintained properly the Luster Leaf 1818 tester should provide years of economical, reliable use.

Did not work on arrival! Minimal instructions, save your money.
The first time I used it the meter failed to show results in any mode. If it comes in concact with water it loses calibration. There is not any included info to recalibrate. I have not had time to contact manufacturer for a remedy.
