Product and Company: Awesome!! September 9, 2010 Jared Cullison (Minneapolis, MN) I ordered this Rat Zapper with Chipmunks as my target. I heard others had success with the same effort and was happy the day mine arrived in the mail.
Well, things didn't start off well. My first unit didn't work. After many missed kills (bait was gone, no rodent), I emailed the company and asked for help. Still, no success after following their recommendations in addition to the enclosed instructions: I was convinced the unit wasn't functioning properly.
Agri Zap (manufacturer) happily sent me a new unit with a postage paid return label for the old one! Not only that, but the replacement unit has worked every single night I've put it out! (I have mine outside under a small roof I built for it to keep the rain off.) My kills have been Mice and Chipmunks. Peanut butter or Granola have been my bait. I put the peanut butter in a milk cap to keep the metal plates clean.
Happy ending! Great company! Fully satisfied!
caught a mouse on the first day September 4, 2010 Yan Wu (Edison NJ) I am very happy that the little mouse, who had lived in my house for a couple of months, was caught on the first night when the trap was installed.
12 Chipmunks down and counting- September 2, 2010 J Bond The Rat Zapper was received as promised and it has functioned as advertised. Using sunflower seeds, 12 chipmunks have been zapped to date. We have found that the unit must be cleaned more often than we expected but the process is easy. We anticipate that we will use the unit in the garage when winter arrives for those mice that seek shelter. My only regret is that we did not order it much sooner.
Many of the previous reviews address using it for rats and mice, but it is also great for chipmunks.
Rat Zapper Ultra ? August 26, 2010 griff So far NOTHING....3 weeks and LOTS of RATS running around in barn....will see if they get use to it and take the bait... 3 more weeks and I am returning it. Hope it works.
Works, but not of electronics not of durable quality August 18, 2010 PeterA When it is new and has fresh batteries it works. Was $38 now $47 - no reason for that price hike. It stopped working after 3 weeks.
I took it apart, and the electronic 'guts' is about the size of a
cigarette packet. Made in a Chinese sweat shop, hand soldered SMT parts, heaps of dodgey looking dry and dull /cold joints on a dirty, flux spattered, unsealed circuit board, and the PIR sensor had a smear on it. IC chip markings sanded off - the only thing done competently. Cleaned /re-soldered things, added sealer where needed, up and it worked again - better than new. There are vents under the circuit board, so if you live in a seaside, probably will let salt gum up the works and attack things. While electronic payload quality is low, this explains the hot and cold reviews. If it fails - send it back - they must know they have some bad batches out there.
